Like the room itself... we consider it gone, until it reappears on its own.

Not a week goes by when we don’t receive a note from a Collector (or 10) asking about The Lost Room comic. While we’ve spoken about it elsewhere, it seems we haven’t updated the blog.

As you may know, Red 5 Comics teamed with The Lost Room writers Christopher Leone and Laura Harkcom to publish “We Kill Monsters”, their first foray into comics. From there, discussion naturally went to expanding the world of The Lost Room — a show that we at Red 5 cannot get enough of and cannot help but have a million questions about.

Since announcing the project, Christopher, Laura and series so-creator Paul Workman have not been able to work on the comic due to expanding personal and professional obligations. At Red 5, we are interested in expanding the world of the room, the event and the objects only if the original team and their vision are a part of it.

As such… until such time as The Lost Room team can re-commit to the project, you should unfortunately consider it to be cancelled… or shall we say disappeared and relocated, like the room itself. If that changes, we will let everyone know.

Thank you for your on-going words of support for the project. We continue to pass them along to the team, waiting for the day the objects will live again.

Digital-First Comic Tries to Unlock the Mind’s Final SEVEN PERCENT

Sci-fi Series Debuts Today from Red 5 Comics

February 27, 2013. Calgary, AB — In 3499 A.D., Earth has been abandoned. The human mind has been unlocked. Science has pushed the mind to its limits, but has been unable to go beyond 93% activation. What secrets lie within the final SEVEN PERCENT?

Back in 2010, Red 5 Comics pressed its role as a digital comic pioneer, becoming the first publisher to debut a modern platform “digital first” line of comics. Following popular crossover titles in the line like “Bonnie Lass” and “Moon Girl”, comes the latest fun, thought-provoking, beautifully-produced series — “Seven Percent”.

“Despite its influence on our company origins, we haven’t done any pure space-faring sci-fi,” said Red 5 Comics co-founder, Paul Ens. “With ‘Seven Percent’, we finally found a unique take on the genre that we think independent comic fans will love. It’s smart, with a great premise and stunning art.”

The six-issue limited series is created by Luke Keith, written by Jeremy Fiest, and illustrated by Jarreau Wimberly… each of whom could be described as prolithic newcomers, with a backlog of impressive work soon to burst on the scene.

“I’ve always been fascinated by the concept of human potential, especially of the mind,” said series creator Luke Keith, “Modern science, with all it’s advances, is still nowhere close to understanding the dynamic labyrinth that is the human brain. What if in the distant future science found a way to unlock and control it? Who would take advantage of that power? What kind of universe would it be if our minds were no longer our own? What does it mean to be free? What does it mean to be human? This is what our story is about.”

Seven Percent #1 debuts today on the both the comiXology and iVerse comicsplus digital platforms for just $1.99.

This weekend, Red 5 helps make more history by partnering with comiXology and Emerald City Comicon to bring the first ever digital comic convention exclusive — “Atomic Robo: Along Came a Tyrantula”.

Atomic Robo digital comic to go on sale to general public Wednesday, March 6th after ECCC ’13

Febuary 25th, 2013 –New York/Calgary/Seattle – ComiXology, Red 5 Comics & Emerald City Comicon have teamed up to bring fans the first-ever digital convention exclusive — Atomic Robo: Along Came a Tyrantula. Every ECCC ’13 badge holder will find a redemption code on the back of their convention badge that entitles them to this digital only Atomic Robo comic. Fans at the show will be the first to experience this first of its kind convention exclusive that showcases how comiXology makes exciting new, immersive and innovative storytelling techniques possible by utilizing comiXology’s Guided View technology – that can only be experienced on comiXology!

For those digital comic fans not attending ECCC’ 13, don’t fret! Atomic Robo: Along Came a Tyrantula will be made available for sale worldwide on Wednesday, March 6th across comiXology’s entire cloud-based platform that includes iPhone, iPad, Android, Kindle Fire, Windows 8 and the Web.

“This is not a paper comic adapted to digital. It was a from-scratch ground-up experiment with the boundaries of the comic reading experience. Without the tools that comiXology’s Guided View provides, it would not have been possible,” said Atomic Robo creators Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener. ” We can’t wait to hear the reaction from the Emerald City Comicon debut. Atomic Robo is an action scientist, and it was great to have the chance to more deeply explore his action side for this comic.”

“ComiXology is not only committed to making it easier to discover, buy and read comics and graphic novels, but also to evolve how stories are told,” said comiXology co-founder John D. Roberts. “It’s been gratifying to see creators taking advantage of comiXology’s Guided View reading technology to tell their stories over the last several years – and it’s especially rewarding to work with Brian and Scott of the Atomic Robo team to really push forward what the digital comics experience can be.”

“ComiXology has been amazing in their support of Emerald City Comicon and we’re excited to offer this completely new kind of digital convention exclusive at ECCC ’13 first!” said Emerald City Comicon Convention Director Jim Demonakos. “Each and every attendee will be able to get this free exclusive and we won’t even have to worry about running out!”

Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener’s Atomic Robo comic series from Red 5 exploded on to the comic scene in October of 2007. Garnering numerous Eisner Award nominations over the years since its debut, the Atomic Robo series follows the adventures of an automated intelligence machine named, what else, Atomic Robo, as he rids the world of evil and has fun while doing it!

ComiXology will be presenting at Emerald City Comicon ’13 at booth #2101 while Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener of the Atomic Robo creative team will be at G-04.

ComiXology was most recently in the news this past January with the formation of “comiXology Europe”, a division of the company to be headquartered in Paris, France that will be spearheading the acquisition of international language content across the European continent. This news was followed shortly by the announcement of a distribution agreement with leading French publisher Delcourt Publishing Group.

Previously in December Apple revealed that comiXology’s iPad app ranked #3 in Apple’s 2012 Top Ten Grossing list, and was the only app to make the Top Ten list for 2 years consecutively. In October of 2012, comiXology crested 100 million comic and graphic novel downloads with more than 50 million of those happening in 2012 alone – continuing a trajectory of record-shattering growth.

With over 30,000 comics and graphic novels from more than 100 publishers, comiXology offers the widest selection of English language digital comics in the world. ComiXology’s availability across the iPhone, iPad, Android, Kindle Fire, Windows 8 and the Web makes it the best digital platform for newly interested, current and lapsed comic and graphic novel fans worldwide.

All-new exploits of the under-sized and over-personalitied “Bodie Troll”.

It is the mission of Red 5 Comics to produce smart, fun-filled comics that bring joy to comic readers of any age. In the tradition of titles like Eisner-nominated “Atomic Robo” and YALSA-winning “We Kill Monsters”, comes the all-new exploits of the under-sized and over-personalitied “Bodie Troll”.

In the fairytale village of Hagadorn lurks Bodie Troll, a fuzzy little grump who wants to be big and scary, but is doomed to be cute and cuddly. But what Bodie lacks in terror he makes up for in mischief. Silly and suspenseful adventures await just beyond his bridge!

“Bodie Troll” is the creation of cartoonist Jay P. Fosgitt, the writer and artist for such graphic novels as “Little Green Men”, “Dino Duck” and “Old McMonster’s Haunted Farm”. His whimsical art style graced “Dreamworks Animation Magazine” and the book “Team Cul De Sac: Cartoonists Draw the Line at Parkinson’s”.

“Fans of such classic works as Jay Ward’s ‘Fractured Fairy Tales’, Jim Henson’s ‘Muppets’, and Maurice Sendak’s ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ will feel at home in the wild, warm and whimsical romp of Bodie’s adventures,” said Fosgitt.

Bodie will be introduced to Red 5 Comic’s largest-ever audience as he will share pages with Atomic Robo in this May’s Free Comic Book Day issue. Retailers will want to have copies of Bodie Troll #1 on hand for the event.

As Red 5 is an independent publisher, the best way to ensure your copy of “Bodie Troll” this spring is to pre-order it before February 28 from your comic shop using order code FEB131119. “Bonnie Lass #1” of the four-issue series is a spotlight item in July’s Diamond Preview catalog and set for release on April 17, 2013 for just $2.99.

The Long-Awaited Conclusion to “Moon Girl” Has Arrived

Moon Girl #5 Available Digitally and Print Pre-Order

It is an all-too-familiar story in the world of creator-owned comics. After a strong start, a promising and compelling project suffers delays… or worse.

Last year, Tony Trov and Johnny Zito’s revival of Golden Age heroine “Moon Girl” was met with rave reviews and solid sales that caught Red 5 Comics’ eye. It warranted a leap from digital-exclusive to a full-blown printed monthly that was available in comic shops across North America.

Planned from the outset as a five-issue mini-series, the comic was met with high praise for its complex yet nostalgic writing. Nerds in Babeland said, “this story compiles some of the best elements of sci-fi, horror and super hero action.” Pop Matters declared Moon Girl “already a classic, just two issues in, or soon destined to be. It certainly deserves to be one.”

But it was the jaw-dropping hand-painted art by Rahzzah, described by A Comic Book Blog as “some beautiful combination of Alex Ross and Arkham Asylum’s Dave McKean”, that really set this incarnation of Moon Girl apart.

It was that time-intensive standard, combined with external circumstances and commitments, that simply proved too much to keep the series on schedule. The 4th issue was released in September 2011, promising an amazing finale with Moon Girl and her adversaries, holding the fate of New York in limbo. Issue #5 did not come out the following month, or the month after that.

Despite personal set-backs, Rahzzah assured us he was committed to finishing the project and to not compromise even a single panel by rushing. Months went by and pages came in. But not just any pages… the best, most striking pages of the entire series.

Today, Moon Girl #5 is finally available to the public as a digital-exclusive on the Comixology platform where the series debuted. Whether you’ve been waiting in anticipation, or if you’ve yet to experience the wonders of Moon Girl, check out the entire series now at http://www.comixology.com/Moon-Girl/comics-series/3945

With its unique non-linear story-telling style, we agree with A Comic Book Blog that “Moon Girl is a book you want to stick with for the full five-issue run to get the maximum enjoyment and understanding.” The best way to read Moon Girl is as a collected graphic novel, but to put out a printed edition of issue #5 would delay the release of such an edition in print even further.

As such, the trade paperback of Moon Girl with extras from the creators can be pre-ordered now from your local comic shop for just $14.95 using order code NOV121284. The deluxe collection includes exclusive extras from the creators and is one of Diamond Previews spotlight items this month and will be on-shelves in February 2013.

The Indie Sensation Makes Digital Comic Debut Today

“The Voyages of She-Buccaneer” was an indie-comic sensation during its debut run in 2008, with rave reviews and a regular spot in the monthly top 300 comic sales charts. Created by Will Hughes, there was much more to the strong heroine than her well-endowed pirate physique might betray.

Starting today, She-Buccaneer returns with digital-pioneer publisher Red 5 Comics to take on the realm of digital comics on the Comixology and iVerse platforms. Her complete adventures to date are available as individual issues or collected for the first time in a single volume.

To celebrate her return, The Adventures of She-Buccaneer #1 is available free-of-charge for a limited time for viewing on the web, iOS or Android devices.

With the galaxy far, far away history of Red 5 Comics, Hughes first came to their attention with his work on “Star Wars: Droids” comics and the Star Wars Essential Guide series. When Hughes began plans to expand the She-Buccaneer legend with all new adventures, a partnership with Red 5 was a natural fit.

“When a reader downloads a Red 5 comic,” said Red 5 co-founder Paul Ens, “they expect action, adventure, humor and fun. The Voyages of She-Buccaneer delivers on all of those notes.”

The voyages begin with the death of her one true love, Captain Calico Jack Rackham. In the depths of despair, she is lured into the tombs of Eden and offered a deal with the devil for the release of Jack’s soul. But before she can become a legend, she must battle the cannibal giants of Atlantis, the dragons of the Eastern Sea and escape sacrifice upon the steps of ancient Aztec temples.

There are not simply enough Atomic Robo stories in the world.

For anyone who has ever read Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener’s “Atomic Robo” stories from Red 5 Comics, their complaint is always the same – there are not simply enough Atomic Robo stories in the world.

Enter “Atomic Robo Presents… Real Science Adventures”, a new monthly comic series of Robo-related pulp tales. “Real Science Adventures” debuts with its first issue this Wednesday, March 28 in comic shops across North America and digitally through the Comixology and iVerse readers.

“There are hundreds of stories to tell from the history of Robo’s world,” explains RSA writer Clevinger, “but not all of them fit the larger arcs we have planned. This is our opportunity to tell some of those stories from the little corners of Robo’s world.”

In order to expand Robo’s universe without doubling the workload of Robo’s co-creator and artist, Scott Wegener, the creators looked for help from its own team of action artists.

“Scott and I have met a ton of artists in the years since we started Atomic Robo and we’re always looking for opportunities to work with them. Bingo! So, we’ve got four short stories in each issue and each story is drawn by a different artist.”

“I wrote all the scripts and then Scott and I tricked a bunch of our artist friends into drawing them for us. We’ve got Ryan Cody, Yuko Ota, Rob Reilly, Chris Houghton, John Broglia, Zack Finfrock, and more.”

Fans of Atomic Robo’s currently-told adventures can expect to see familiar faces in starring roles. “We’ve got everybody. Robo, the Sparrow, Dr. Dinosaur, Bruce Lee, and of course fan favorite Secretary of Defence James Forrestal,” teases Clevinger.

But “Real Science Adventures” is not what readers might come to have expect from a traditional anthology.

“It’s less an anthology and more a collection of stories from the little corners of Robo’s world,” Clevinger explains. “Every story we tell is part of the mythos of Robo, his world, and their histories. These are no different. Some of these stories are wholly original, like when Robo trained under Bruce Lee, while others are continuations of tales we already told.”

Look for “Atomic Robo Presents… Real Science Adventures #1” this Wednesday wherever the finest Atomic Robo comics are sold.
